University of Southern Nevada Officially Becomes Roseman University of Health Sciences

– Name change reflects growth of private, non-profit university –

HENDERSON, Nev. – July 5, 2011 – The University of Southern Nevada, a health sciences-focused university founded in Henderson, Nev. in 1999, today officially became Roseman University of Health Sciences. The university’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved the name change in December 2010.

“The name Roseman University of Health Sciences name was selected to honor our founding president, Dr. Harry Rosenberg, and College of Pharmacy Dean, Dr. Renee Coffman, two outstanding individuals who played pivotal roles in the founding of the university and its growth into a vibrant and innovative institution of higher learning,” said Diana Bond, chair of the university’s Board of Trustees. “The change to a non-geographic name will also help the university as it continues its expansion in Utah and will ease confusion by differentiating it from similarly named schools in the Nevada higher education system. More importantly, it better reflects the university’s mission as a leader in transforming health care education.”

The university, with campuses in Henderson and South Jordan, Utah, spent months preparing for the name change, which included the development of new logos and university colors. The university is also launching an extensive re-branding campaign to raise awareness of the new name and the university’s continued commitment to educating high-quality, competent health care professionals.

“With our tremendous growth in Nevada and Utah, and particularly with the launch of our Doctor of Dental Medicine program in Utah in August, the University of Southern Nevada name no longer accurately reflected who we are and whom we serve,” said Dr. Rosenberg, Roseman University president. “We are a health sciences university offering an unparalleled learning experience, while also delivering excellent, affordable, high-quality health care services in Nevada and Utah communities.”

Roseman currently offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing through its College of Nursing; the Doctor of Pharmacy and Professional Continuing Education in Pharmacy through its College of Pharmacy; and the Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics/MBA through its College of Dental Medicine. Roseman also offers general and health care-focused Master of Business Administration programs.

Since its founding, Roseman utilizes a “Block Curriculum System,” rather than the traditional semester/quarter system, that emphasizes student-centered, active learning. The system allows students to concentrate on one subject at a time, enabling them to master the content. This system also necessitates that faculty teach using varied instructional activities for students, which supports active learning techniques and strategies, and accommodates different learning styles to promote high achievement. Classrooms are designed to emphasize active and cooperative learning, in an inclusive atmosphere with the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology. In addition to the didactic component of the curriculum, all programs incorporate experiential learning at internal or external clinical sites, allowing students to see, feel and understand what is presented in the classroom setting.

Roseman University of Health Sciences is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, and each academic program is accredited or is a candidate for accreditation by its respective accrediting body.
